DEMONSTRATION/CELEBRATION

It is important for students, the school, and the community, to recognize the accomplishments they have made as a result of their service-learning projects. Demonstration affords time to offer this recognition as well as energize students and community partners for future projects. Of course, the material rewards of service-learning shouldn't outweigh the internal satisfaction derived from helping others and making a difference. Demonstrations:

  • show students that their contributions are valued by the school and community. Recognition boosts self-esteem and self-confidence and allows them to attempt more ambitious undertakings.
  • are opportunities to reflect on service experiences.
  • include recognition of community members who participated in service-learning projects thereby strengthening the ties to the community.
  • are an opportunity to publicize the service-learning program as well as raising community and school awareness of important issues.
  • are opportunities for students and community members to interact and to share ideas for future projects.
  • are an opportunity for the community to recognize and benefit from student learning and academic progress.
